Jerome Dahan and Michael Glasser founded 7 For All Mankind, and when they had to leave the company for business reasons, they decided to create a new denim line that was bigger and better. I don't know if they succeeded in beating their original brainchild, but they produce a pretty great product with California-based Citizens of Humanity. Prior to founding Citizens of Humanity and 7 For All Mankind, Dahan was also a founder of Lucky Brand, and he worked alongside Adriano Goldschmeid (AG Jeans). Understatement of the year: this guy knows his jeans.
His artistry and experience is apparent in Citizens Jeans. With the trademark "H" on the back pockets and the fit that accommodates many different body types, Citizen's denim appeals to a wide range of women with a wide range of fashion philosophies - from pearls and penny loafers to bra tops and leopard prints.

Citizens of Humanity jeans represent a clean and streamlined approach to denim (not to mention twill and corduroy). And Dahan and Glasser are taking a revolutionary and responsible approach to business. The denim gurus donate a portion of all proceeds to Conservation International, a non-profit that applies innovations in science, economics, policy and community participation to protect the Earth's richest regions of plant and animal diversity in the biodiversity hotspots, high-biodiversity wilderness areas as well as important marine regions around the globe. So when you buy your hot pair of jeans, you're giving back to like, the globe. Awesome.

If the jeans don't appeal to the do-gooder in you (and why not? You are a citizen of humanity, aren't you?); then they probably appeal to the fashionista in you. After all, Citizens Jeans are worn by many of the rich, beautiful, famous (and slightly imbalanced - nobody's perfect) ladies you often see on best-dressed lists, red carpets, in movies, on the television and gracing the covers of your favorite fashion magazines.
The Ingrid and Kelly jean are classic Citizens of Humanity. Form fitting, slim around the thigh and breaking into a gentle flare or bootcut, these jeans flatter the slim or curvy - i.e. the Nicole Richie or the Scarlett Johannson. The Margo jean is the updated version of the Citizens of Humanity Kelly jean. It has everything you love about the Kelly with a slightly more embellished pocket. Also check out Citizens of Humanity skirts and the many items in the line that are not denim. You can find them in trendy boutiques nationwide and at upscale department stores like Nordstrom. Shop away, conservationists/fashionistas!
