Nicole Miller is a classic American fashion designer who was born in Lenox, MA in 1952. After attending fashion school in Paris and graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) she started her own fashion line in 1982. Nicole learned early on that the key to a successful fashion line lies in the simple fact that all women are built differently and clothes should be designed and manufactured to flatter all body types. In laymen terms that means - girl knows how to camouflage the "problem areas." The key was in the simple details and most importantly, the cut - and Nicole mastered the art of making women look good very early on in her career. She initially started selling her clothes to department stores, but in 1986 she opened her first namesake boutique to gain some independence from the constraints of department store buyers. She quickly developed a celebrity clientele and was known as one of the first designers to use celebrities as models for advertising campaigns.

Nicole Miller has always been best known for its exceptionally well-built dresses in bold solid and printed fabrics. Nicole comes up with her own printed fabric concepts, drawing inspiration from any number of things including nature or a Broadway show. She employs a handful of artists whose main job is to design graphic fabrics for her. Imitation is often said to be the greatest form of flattery, and with that said, the excessive number of Nicole Miller pattern knock-offs is the best indication of her success. Since its initial conception, the Nicole Miller collection is now a myriad of designs including outerwear, menswear, golf attire, accessories, cosmetics, bridal wear and a line at Bed, Bath and Beyond. In 2003, Nicole launched MillerGirl, a youth oriented sportswear collection and in 2005 she launched an upscale evening wear line - Nicole is always thinking red carpet. In fact, the collection is called "Upscale Red Carpet."

As of 2001, there were 30 Nicole Miller branded stores in the United States. She launched her website in 1994, primarily as a source of information about the company and added an online shopping feature in 1998. Nicole Miller designs can also be at a few upscale department stores like Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. Nicole's sheer desire to grow and evolve with the times (like adding online shopping in 1998 before the majority of the other major designer labels) not only shows how she understands the evolution of her customers, but it also ensures her long-lasting presence in the fashion community.
