7 For All Mankind, the go-to brand for those who know jeans and like the way the tell-tale pocket design enhances their assets (if you catch my drift), was founded in 2000 by Michael Glasser, Peter Koral and Jerome Dahan in Vernon, CA. In 2004, Glasser and Dahan left the company and sued Koral, who ended up paying a sizable settlement to his two co-founders. He eventually sold 50 percent of the company to Bear Stearns Merchant Banking. So, who knew there was so much drama behind the scenes? Luckily for us consumers, the jeans never stopped being cute the whole time. Luckily for Koral, the profits ain't hurtin' either. In the first full year of business, sales reached $13 million in 2001, and the profits grew exponentially. The label started out selling only women's jeans, but now Seven Jeans are available in men's and children's styles and are sold in more than 80 countries.

The name Seven For All Mankind is inspired by the statistic that most Americans own an average of seven pairs of jeans at a time. These days, there are likely a number of people who own seven pairs of 7 jeans alone. The tight, low-rise fit and distressed denim look is ubiquitous on college campuses, city streets and probably your closet. Come on, you know you have at least two pairs. You might also see Seven jeans in the pages of your weekly tabloid; Kristin Kreuk, Jessica Simpson, Deborah Messing, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Britney Spears, Jennifer Aniston, Sarah Jessica Parker, Christina Aguilera, Paris Hilton, and Carmen Electra, are among the stars who wear Sevens. So what if they wear a size way smaller than yours? You can still floss like a tabloid princess.
The signature Seven style was created by the label's design team, which includes Tim Kaeding, formerly of the Gap, Rebecca Danenberg, formerly of Tahari, and Larissa Noble, who graduated from the Parsons School of Design and used to work in costume design before joining the Seven team.

Seven Jeans shouldn't be mistaken for the European brand Seven7, which was founded in the 1960s. I know many a person who has been fooled, but be aware! Seven7 jeans are less expensive and have a swirling pocket design as opposed to Seven's signature swoop. Confused? Check out the pictures.
7 for All Mankind clothing can be found at men's and women's boutiques throughout the United States and in a large number of foreign countries, including Japan, Canada and Western Europe. Seven Jeans can also be found at upscale department stores like Nordstrom.
The women's line of jeans includes a variety of fits and washes such as: Bootcut, Low Rise Bootcut, A-Pocket, Straight, Dojo, Jagger, Colette, Boycut, Wide Leg, Flare, Skinny and Flynt. I'm partial to the trouser-style dojo and the new skinnies - perfect for tucking into slouchy boots. But, uh, that's just me. The men's line includes: Bootcut, Relaxed, Flynt, A-Pocket Bootcut, A-Pocket Relaxed, Slimmy, and Standard.
